I looked over the top of some heads a saw the escalators going down, it looked like we were the ones going sideways so I said to my husband 'Wow the lift goes up sideways'. One man said 'This ain't Charlie and the chocolate factory', everyone in the lift started laughing. When the doors opened my red faced husband ran out....Show more

Marvella Benward: Okay, So I've seen this Riddle posted on quite a few websites and they all have the wrong answer. I am here to tell you that on December 4th, 2012, Max McGee, the creator of the Riddle of the Sminxth, hosted a riddle solving party after Smith Hall's Hall Council meeting at Lock Haven University. Below you'll find the LEGITIMATE ANSWER; the "consonants" answer of 2 that is commonly found on other websites, is vastly incorrect and has been offered as an answer to Max many times and it ALWAYS gets turned down. For the record: here is the official riddle and here is the official answer worked out:The Riddle of the Sminxth:I am me and you and me are I. Everyone knows atouchdown makes six. So tell me truthfully whatare lies. Okay first off, you cannot sol! ve this riddle without the sheet of paper that the riddle is formally printed on. On the paper, the riddle is written in the font 'Old English'. You'll also notice that 'Sminxth' is a lot like 'Smith' the residence hall Max has operated for over 20 years. The difference lies in the "N and X". So we have "ENGLISH" and "ROMAN NUMERALS" and Max described that both the English and the Romans were in Egypt at the time of the Sphinx (the large cat-bodied human head sculpture). Anyway, so YES, in order to get to the answer you need to work out the Roman Numerals. First line: I = Me; therefore 1 = ME. M in Roman Numeral is 1000.So with the equation 1 = (1000)E, you algebraically solve for E and receive the answer 0.001. I = you + me. If I = ME then you know that you = 0. Everyone knows a touchdown (as in football touchdown) makes six. Okay so to score a touchdown in football is to gain 6 points. Again, set up an algebraic equation: 6 = SIX, where IX is roman numeral 9 and you ! solve for S. So the equation looks like 6 = S(9) and you find that S = ! 0.67. Final Line: Tell me truthfully, what are LIES. L roman numeral = 50I roman numeral = 1E algebraically solved = 0.001S algebraically solved = 0.67. Multiply everything together and you find that (51) x (0.001) x (0.67) = 0.306. The final and correct answer, LIES is equal to 0.306. There you have it! Got to admit, there were quite a few disappointed people; we were all expecting some huge and extravagant answer to the 20 year old Riddle, but we all now know the answer! *If you see this Riddle posted on other sites, which I'm sure you will, be sure to fill them in on the answer! :) Thank you!...Show more
