Ricardo Rozelle: improvement from original super hornet longer and more power super cobra 2 engines instead of one plus many other things
Lou Ravelo: You have it exactly, the company upgrades an existing design. The new product is different enough to be given a different name. Thus the new hercules are super hercules, etc...
Lucien Hellerman: It's just the manufacturer. They're upgraded versions of previously designed aircraft. They put in new state-of-the-art avionics, engines, maybe lengthen or widen the actual airframe a little, things like that. Calling it the "Super Hornet" is a lot catchier than simply calling it the F/A-18F. It's a subtle PR campaign to get their product purchased. If/When the military decides to buy them, the name just sorta sticks because that's how the company has been referring to their aircraft during the whole courtship process....Show more
Billie Bratchett: I can only tell you about the Cobra the Super Cobra is a Modified V! ersion of the Army Cobra For the Marines it has twin Engines same with there Huey made that way because of the Time they spend flying over Water it has Better Lift than the Army's Version the Army's could not fly Fully Loaded with armament and a full Bag of gas Because the weapon's systems were developed slowly after the Air Frame Im sure all the other are just Different Modifications
Chanda Wittwer: It is a marketing name assigned by the company for upgraded versions of old aircraft.
