What are the advantages and disadvantages of working for an employment agency?

Branden Roddick: I think it works well, especially if it is a 2nd job or you want to remain flexible. I work full time but wanted a 2nd job to save up some cash for a holiday. Instead of working direct for the employer and having to ask in advance for time off, look at a roster ect, I joined an agency where i get an email of the jobs available for that week and then pick and choose to my liking. If i want a couple of days off.......no problems.....I just don't ask to work. If i want to nick off o/s for 3 weeks.....no problem. And the pay was on par (and sometimes even more) than if I worked direct for the employer anyway. ...Show more

Avis Brantner: The only advantage I have had by working through an employment agency is that I haven't had to apply, on my own, for a job. I file an application and resume with an employment agency, and that agency markets me. The employment agency makes money every time they find me a job! The disadvantage of working for an employmen! t agency is no medical benefits, and usually no opportunity to contribute to a 40lK. Those who work through an employment agency usually receive less than "market" value for the jobs they perform....Show more

Arlen Lopiccalo: Gets you connected with the right people, depending on what level of recruitment your doing. But from what I understand the pay is crap.

Cliff Jacoby: you will never be out of a job.

Caroyln Ebach: You can try out a job without all of the embarrassment, etc of finding out you don't like a job. Some people try a few jobs for a few months at a time to see how they like it.
