So you should be able to contact TiVo to reactivate the box with lifetime service.One thing to watch out for is TiVo Basic, which is a free barebones Tivo service that doesn't have any of the advanced features like Season Pass and TiVoToGo. TiVo Basic was offered on a few boxes like the Toshiba and Humax DVD units. Myron Leftwich: I did it and it has worked out fine; you just call Tivo had have them transfer it to your Tivo account. Notes:Same risks as any other used electronics. Will it be in working order when you get it? Did the seller actually own it? I made sure to buy the same model Tivo as my old one and kept the old one for parts. That way if the power supply dies I have one handy. The "lifetime" is tied to the motherboard! ; typical failures are of the power supply or hard drive, and those are fairly easy to replace.I use the Tivo with an antenna and converter box, so I made sure I was buying a Series 2 single tuner.
