Clark Lachowski: Game Design, doesn't mean what you likely think it does. A design document is the algorithm the game code will use to figure out battle sequences or random drops. You don't necessarily have to be a programmer or even have a computer science related degree to be a game "designer." If you're looking for art related classes, you need to purchase a software like zbrush, and you should take graphics art related classes in college.finally, if you'd like to be a programmer aka code monkey, you can translate what is already spelled out for you by the game designer into code, which is pretty easy once you become fluent in a given language and are very familiar with computer science topics....Show more
Jorge Gerrero: It depends on what part of game design your interested in. I'm a designer myself. When i originally decided to get into game design i didn't know much about the different parts. No one person does everything in game design. You can see what i mea! n if you have ever beat a game and let the credits role. There are groups/teams of people who work on each different part. The coders code the game. The level designers create the levels and sometimes even the objects that go into the level. There is usually a group for lighting, environmental effects and such. To go even further, there are also groups who create the collision mesh which prevents you from walking through objects or moving them around (also to prevent you from falling through the map).Like i said, it depends on what you want to do with your career. I chose to build the worlds and objects in them and add lighting, and other environmental effects. This is what i excel at. Once you find your niche, you will be surprised at how good you are at it. It just takes time, patience and perseverance. Although i am in school for game design, i had a head start on it. I've been modeling for several years before i chose to go to school, thinking that it will make it easie! r. I suggest you do the same thing. Try out every aspect of ga! me design to find what fits you....Show more
