The trouble is that with most of them, there is a membership fee involved, and you end up bidding on jobs and competing with people from india, the orient, and the former soviet bloc, all good programmers, but who are willing to work for dirt cheap. So you really have to pitch your products well, and emphasize your ability to program in real English. 2. Advertise on craigslist, local newspapers, local business directories...3. Join a local Leads groups. Look it up - but it's groups of professionals that meet together once a month, to share leads with each other - one member is a banker, one is a real estate agent, one is a broker, one is a web designer, but you get the idea. Every city has them. Join one.4. Set up an advertising site f! or your service and drive traffic to it. Print up catchy direct mail flyers to postal send to new business registrations in your area (there is a business review newspaper in our area that publishes them - there should be something similar in yours too).7. Do a couple of simple free sites for some local charities, to create yourself a portfolio, and be sure to include a "Site designed and built by xxxxxxx" blurb at the bottom of each...8.
