VW Jetta 2013? Is it a Good car?

Pasty Cobbett: I have owned lots of VW's. I am very experienced with them. My uncle has a 2012 Jetta TDI, my sister has an 06 Jetta TDI, and my dad a 2013 Jetta 2.5. Basically its a hit or miss situation. You'll either buy a solid, reliable car, or you'll buy a lemon. Before you buy, test drive the car you'll buy if its in the lot. Do hard accelerations, test things to the max including the stereo speakers, brakes, etc. Make sure all the parts can handle it. It can single out a lemon real fast in a lot of cases. 85% chance you will get a very reliable car. Once you know it isnt a lemon, Volkswagens will run for nearly millions of kilometers, especially the 2.5 5 cylinders and 2.0 I4. I would definitely do it, make sure its a late model 2013, kinks are usually worked out by then....Show more

Marty Tichnell: Jetta has a better maintenance record than most cars.People used to simple old VWs complain that things like power windows and door locks break, but th! at happens on all cars that have them. VW are like all cars with more power options, and all are more fragile than the older ones used to be. The main thing is to find a local independent shop, because dealers are expensive once it is out of warranty. If you have no local independents, then forget it....Show more

Todd Stogner: My wife and I drove a 2005 Jetta for 6yrs and over 120,000 reliable miles. [at 100k we replaced timing belt and water pump]. Great car.Well, we wanted something larger and sold the Jetta and bought a 2011 Camry. Big mistake. We just dont like the way the Camry handles [like a marshmallow] ; loose and unsettling. Most ppl like this but we don't. It just doesn't have 'soul' , no pep at all... Yes its reliable; but really boring to drive.Anyway, last week we went to VW Dealer and test drove a 2013 Jetta. Great car; larger than our 05 Jetta, great handling, lots of 'character' and feel. But it had many options that we were not interested in [s! unroof, navigation system, leather, etc.]So we decided on a ne! w 2014 Jetta 'S' which is a four cylinder , basic car, no frills. However, they could not find the color we desired. Seems these cars sell quickly .We are waiting for them to call when they have a Candy White one. Then its bye-bye Camry.......Oh , by the way, Automobile Magazine just did a comparison test that included the Camry, Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Ford Fusioin.
